Life in the Sixth Form
Sixth Form is a crucial time as students prepare for examinations and assessments which may shape their future for years to come. It is the first time they have been given so much independence to manage their own workload and the autonomy to make important decisions about their future. We understand that, whilst it is an exciting time, it can also be challenging. We take mental and physical wellbeing very seriously and have a comprehensive pastoral structure in place throughout the school. All staff operate an open-door policy and students know they can raise any concerns or issues with any member of staff. Each Sixth Form student has access to the Student Focus Centre on site and a team of staff supporting them.

Pastoral Programme
Our pastoral programme, delivered every week by Form Tutors, includes a diverse and appropriate range of topics including relationships, stress management, self-esteem, staying healthy and democracy. With the support of the Student Focus Centre, and through their partnership with the local counselling service No. 22, we are able to offer workshops and structured support for any student who is experiencing anxiety due to workload or exam pressure.
Enrichment
This year we are delighted to introduce a dedicated enrichment session for all students in Year 12 on a Wednesday. This provides students with a rounded, culturally rich education through activities that enhance their learning. We offer opportunities to try new and varied activities that may not strictly fit into the curriculum, but that develop character, resilience and motivation, and encourage students to pursue wider goals. More information can be found in the document below.
All Sixth Form students have the opportunity to enjoy a wide-range of extra-curricular activities including:
- Sixth Form Bulletin Editorial Team
- Gold Duke of Edinburgh
- EPQ
- OxBridge preparation and links with Dr Organ from Brasenose College, Oxford University
- Inspirational speakers
- National Citizen Service – NCS
- Sixth Form Book Club
- School trips
Each year new clubs and societies spring up, many created and run by our Sixth Form: all the evidence shows that well-rounded students who pursue interests alongside their studies are the happiest and most successful, both academically and in other aspects of their lives.
Sixth Form students are superb role models and, as such, have the opportunity to become leaders as soon as they enter Sixth Form. We encourage everyone to consider applying to become a Prefect, Sports or Music Captain, Deputy Head Girl or Head Girl. There will also be opportunities to become House Captains and subject leaders next year, all of which contribute to rich and varied leadership pathways for you.
Sixth Form Uniform
Sixth Form students are encouraged to take pride in their appearance and must wear the Sixth Form uniform, which is appropriate for the business environment, as we believe that this is a student’s place of work.
The Sixth Form uniform is a tailored black skirt or trouser suit, which is available to purchase from Goyals or School Direct. To make the uniform more affordable, students may purchase their black suit from a retailer of their choice, as long as it is suitable business wear. Students can wear a top of their choice and appropriate footwear (e.g. shoes not trainers).
The following do not comply with the Sixth Form dress code:
• Tops with large logos or writing on them
• Revealing or low-cut tops
• Hoodies or sweatshirts (even with school logo)
• Ugg style boots, Doc Martin style boots
• Trainers / canvas shoes or flip flops
• Facial piercings other than multiple small singular ear studs, as well as a small nose ring or stud
• Unnatural hair colour
