Why consider GCSE Music

• Music is an academic subject in its own right, but it actually benefits other subjects too.
• It will provide transferable skills.

Course Structure

COMPONENT 1 (PERFORMANCE) = 30% - Perform 1 solo and 1 ensemble performance totalling 4-6 minutes combined duration.

COMPONENT 2 (COMPOSING) = 30% - Compose 2 compositions totalling 3 minutes combined duration.  One to a choice of briefs set by Eduqas and the other being a free composition.

COMPONENT 3 (APPRAISING) = 40% - 1hr 15 min exam. Eight questions in total, two on each of the four areas of study.

• Area of study 2: Music for Ensemble
• Area of study 3: Film Music
• Area of study 4: Popular Music

Course Expectations

• You need to be able to sing or play an instrument to ideally grade 3/4 standard by the end of the course
• You must be prepared to work on your ability to read music notation
• You must be involved in extra-curricular clubs in the music department. Membership of Senior Choir is a requirement
• You must be willing to open your mind to new styles of music and musical experiences
• You must meet deadlines
